I have to cover my ears when I use it but it only takes up to 30 seconds to crush 6 ice cubes for my smoothies when my old one left big chunks of ice no matter how long I had it running. It whips up shakes made with ice with ease and quickly and relatively quietly. Then you just drink it out of the container - less mess, less waste, less clean up and more shake. The buttons on the side of the blender are well placed and responsive. There's a small light to the left of every button except "OFF" that goes on when that button is selected, very nifty. The glass container is sturdy and slightly heavy with measuring markers engraved in the glass. The blender has many blending options as well. When I found this one and read the (mostly) good reviews I decided to take the plunge and buy it. It's a very pretty blender and the container is glass, which I really like. It's sturdy and well-made. Unlike some of the reviews, however, I am unable to get ALL the ice to totally crush, no matter what setting I use. It's not enough to make the beverages undrinkable, but that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It's definitely a good value for the money! ...more

I make a breakfast drink every morning and it is so nice to just pop the ingredients into the cup and put the blade, gasket and base on and blend away. You have to clean the aforementioned parts of the blender but you don't have to clean a big 40-ounce blender jar every time you make a drink. I chose the Hamilton Beach because it had a 7 cup glass jar and regular push buttons. My old blender had the touch type buttons and the plastic over them cracked within the first year, so I did not want that type again. I usually use my blender for smoothie drinks in which I crush ice along with the other ingredients. I was shocked at how fast it did it's job.
